At the Droid Depot in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, you can create either your own R-series droid (like R2D2) or your own BB-series droid (like BB8). But what kind of droid should you make? Let’s discuss the pros and cons of both and see which is best for you.
As guests walk into the depot, they’ll immediately notice that it is amazingly immersive with unique theming. Look up to see large pieces of droids being transferred via an overhead conveyor wire. It is similar to the way gags were on display in the Gag Factory at Mickey’s Toontown in Disneyland. But instead of strange items that you would see from Who Framed Roger Rabbit, you will, instead, see parts of different kinds of Star Wars robots. Guests who pay the $99.99 fee (as of the time of writing) can choose different parts from the conveyor belt in the back of the store. This one functions like the conveyor belts you would see while checking your groceries at the store.
No matter which kind you choose to build you still get to pick out the colors, personality, and more. There are even certain accessories you can choose from as well, including a serving tray or different colour decals. Once your droid is complete, a cast member will teach you how to control it with your remote. Guests are not permitted to use their droids inside the parks.
The R-Series Droids:
The R-Series Droids are the ones that are built to look like R2D2. To build an R-Series, you only need a few pieces. These include the dome, body, centre leg, and two side legs.
Why It Is Better Than BB-Series:
- easier to make and put together
- easier to drive around and control
- moves faster
- stays intact better than BB8
The BB-Series Droids:
The B-Series Droids are those that are built to look like BB8. The BB-series parts include the dome, dome connection plate, the body sphere, and the motivator.
Why It is Better Than R-Series:
- fewer people make BB droids, so you will be unique
- less traditional
- extra cool because BB droids have to balance on a ball while moving (which, as I mentioned before, can also cause problems)
- younger generations and young kids may enjoy it more
