With Epic Universe opening in 2025, Universal’s theme park roster is set to grow significantly over the next couple of years. And the brand-new Universal Kids Resort will be bringing bucketloads of family fun to the Lone Star State.

In December 2023, it was officially confirmed that the new Universal theme park would be opening in Frisco, Texas. While Universal is notorious for its thrill rides, this brand-new theme park will be on a much smaller scale and mainly feature rides for younger kids.

Here’s what we know so far about the resort…

A Place for the Little Ones

Universal revealed the park's official name at an event in December 2023. Universal.

Molly Murphy, President of Universal Creative, has described the park as a place to inspire children and said, “We’re designing the resort so kids and families can feel the thrill of being physically immersed in their most beloved stories and characters.”

Universal Kids Resort will be set in a lush, green landscape and feature a theme park with various immersive lands. These are rumored to be from Shrek, Trolls, Spongebob Squarepants, and of course, the Despicable Me movies (because who can resist the Minions?), though the exact lands are yet to be officially confirmed by Universal.

What we do know, though, is that much like with the Orlando and Hollywood parks, there will be a mix of attractions and shows, fun food and beverage areas, and plenty of exclusive merchandise.

Universal has also confirmed that a 300-room themed hotel will transform the resort into a vacation destination and give families somewhere to stay after a long day in the park.

The opening date for this park is yet to be announced, though it’s expected to be in 2026 after Epic Universe throws open its gates in Orlando.
