Buckle up, UK theme park fanatics… we have some exciting news just for you! Alton Towers has officially announced plans to reopen on July 4th, 2020, pending Government Guidelines. We are happy to report that they are in good company, as Thorpe Park, Chessington World of Adventures, and LEGOLAND Windsor (all owned by Merlin Entertainments) are also scheduled to reopen on July 4th, 2020.

Precautionary Measures

Alton Towers disclosed a few precautionary measures it is planning to implement in an effort to prevent the spread of coronavirus, as well as ease the minds of families who wish to enjoy a carefree day out to the parks.

“In the era of COVID-19, there is no doubt the guest experience will be different. But what we do have is lots and lots of space, a culture that has safety at its very core and a team that is absolutely obsessed with delivering fantastic experiences for our guests,” stated Alton Towers.

Capacity

There will be stringent limits on capacity, as well as restrictions on how many guests will allowed to use individual rides, attractions and facilities. Both staff and visitors will be required to monitor their own health and are asked to refrain from visiting the theme park if they feel sick, have a temperature or have a cough. Those who arrive at the resort must partake in a mandatory temperature check upon arrival and will be turned away if they have a fever.

Social Distancing

Markers will be installed at so-called “pinch points” where people are likely to gather to ensure proper social distancing.

Sanitation

Hand sanitiser dispensers will be placed at entry and exit points for most rides. In addition, staff will be required to regularly wipe down surfaces which are frequently touched, and common areas will receive a deep clean every night.

Scrub-A-Dub-Dub

Guests will be encouraged to wash their hands often, and staff will be issued with protective clothing, including face masks.
