Mattel’s very first theme park is yet to open in Glendale, AZ and the company has already announced a second.
Yes, that’s right – Mattel is in the early stages of building a new entertainment resort in Bonner Springs, Kansas. Its estimated opening date is 2026, with plans to break ground in late 2024.
The park will be nearly identical to the one opening in Arizona in 2024. Early concept art shows a mix of thrill and family-friendly rides based around some of Mattel’s most iconic IPs: Barbie, Hot Wheels, and Thomas & Friends.
Josh Silverman, Chief Franchise Officer at Mattel said, “Mattel Adventure Park Kansas City will bring our iconic brands to life with epic roller coasters, family-friendly attractions, an immersive theatre, themed dining, and so much more.”
Rides and Attractions at Mattel Adventure Park Kansas
Mattel has announced that this park will offer the same attractions as the Glendale destination, including a pair of thrilling Hot Wheels roller coasters titled Hot Wheels Bone Shaker: The Ultimate Ride and the Hot Wheels Twin Mill Racer.
These coasters will be manufactured by Chance Rides, a Wichita, Kansas-based company that primarily creates toboggan rides. They are responsible for the likes of Wile E. Coyote's Grand Canyon Blaster at Six Flags Texas and Lightning Run in Kentucky Kingdom.
Most exciting, perhaps, is the interactive Barbie Beach House where guests can enjoy a Barbie Dream Closet experience, plus a Barbie theatre and a rooftop restaurant and bar.
Thomas & Friends: World of Sodor will feature five family-friendly attractions and rides perfect for younger children, while the He-Man vs. Skeletor Laser Tag will be the perfect place for kids of all ages (including grown-ups) to let off some steam in a massive laser tag arena.
Mattel’s family-friendly games won’t be left out, either. The Adventure Park will offer mini golf inspired by the iconic Magic 8 Ball and Pictionary (we cannot wait to see how this works) and a giant UNO climbing structure.
