Yesterday, the internet caught a case of Moana-madness, as Disney Parks Blog dropped the first new look at the reimagined rooms at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort!

If you were hoping that the alterations to your former tiki-haven would be subtle, be sure to proceed with caution; this is a massive overhaul. However, as a uber-fan of the former guest room décor and theming, I can honestly say that these rooms offer a truly fresh and inviting vibe.

Pretty much everything is new, from colour palettes and patterns to textures and textiles, many of which showcase Maui and Moana!

Upon first glance, you may feel that the refurb went full “Moana.” And you wouldn’t be wrong, as there are a ton of throwbacks to the new modern-day classic. But upon closer inspection, you will uncover many more hidden cultural details inspired by the Pacific Ocean.

And just a little “HeiHei” for good measure!

Disney Parks Blog made sure to make mention of the Disney Imagineers’ new take on the bathrooms, pulling “inspiration from the sandy ocean floor for the tiles and carved details in the vanity.” If you ask us, they nailed it. There is no doubt that these vibrant patterns give off a tropical oceanic charm.

So, where does all this reimagining leave the Poly’s beloved Great Ceremonial House? Well, as the concept art shows, there are changes to come, including an updated porte cochere featuring a high-pitched, open-truss roof covered in a thatched style peppered with colour, chandeliers, fishing nets and bamboo elements. Even the second-level Monorail station will be getting new wooden screens with a colourful geometric island-inspired palate.

Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort has been closed throughout the pandemic, however, Disney’s Disney Vacation Club Polynesian Villas & Bungalows remained open and in operation.

If you can’t wait to check these rooms out for yourself, you’ll be happy to know that Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is already accepting bookings for late July 2021.
