At long last, with less than a month to go until the start of the 2024 season, Alton Towers fans have received the news they’ve been waiting for with bated breath… Official confirmation from Alton Towers that Nemesis will be reborn on 16th March 2024.
In an announcement video launched on social media at 8.30am on 21st February, we’re introduced to a dark and eerie scene featuring a giant glowing eye deep in the Staffordshire countryside. Onlookers can’t believe what they’re seeing, taking pictures and lurking in the trees. The classic Nemesis theme is remixed (is it another IMAscore banger?) but keeps a lot of what made the original such a well-known piece of music. It's a super atmospheric video and begins the retelling of the Nemesis story.
At the end of the video, the announcement that many fans feared wouldn’t come… Nemesis Reborn opens on 16th March 2024.
Speedy construction of a speedy ride
During the 2023 season, the deconstruction and subsequent reconstruction of Nemesis seemed to fly by. In a matter of months, the old grey- and rust-coloured track was no more and was replaced by new black and vein-streaked track. At one point, some enthusiasts even began to speculate that the ride might open in time for Scarefest 2023.
Unnerved enthusiasts
Alas, that was wishful thinking, and the resort has spent the winter months undertaking a huge restoration project, making changes to the station, pathways, fencing and making major additions to the theming, such as the introduction of a small helicopter inside the stall turn. There are even rumours that the famous eye will be modernised to include a screen so the monster can watch the train as it passes.
During the first few weeks of the year, fans began to worry that even the start of the season might be wishful thinking. By early January the ride hadn’t yet started testing and there was still scaffolding around the site. Rumblings even emerged that it wouldn’t be ready for the first few weeks of the 2024 season.
But, with new management now well and truly settled in at the resort, we need to trust them to get the job done. And it would seem as though that's exactly what's happened.
Whatever’s happening with Nemesis Reborn, Alton Towers clearly knows what it’s doing, and we now know that it’ll debut at the start of the season. And in less than four weeks, we’ll all have the opportunity to ride this legendary beast once again.
