The Walking Dead attraction at Universal Hollywood has been a year-round haunted maze-style staple of the Upper Lot since its debut in 2016. However, there are rumours that the attraction might be closing; though it has not been confirmed by Universal Studios as of now. Let’s talk about what its closure could mean for the future of Universal Studios Hollywood.

Is the Walking Dead Attraction Closing?

It’s complicated. Some sources say “yes,” while others claim it is only a rumour. Word on the street is that The Walking Dead will close on March 3, 2020.

Why would Universal shut it down?

Since nothing has been confirmed, this is all speculation. Many believe it is because the undead’s soon-to-be next-door neighbour – The Secret Life of Pets: Off the Leash – is set to open in the Spring. Having these two attractions next to each other may prove to be both a continuity issue and an eyesore.

Another Theory:

It seems like the replacement of the Universal House of Horrors attraction with The Walking Dead attraction makes sense, but could there be a different reason for the change? The Universal House of Horrors attraction was a year-round haunted maze-style attraction that was themed after a different spooky intellectual property (IP) every year or so, such as Psycho, The Mummy, Frankenstein, Chucky, etc. As AMC's The Walking Dead is getting older and probably coming to a close soon, it is possible that they will replace it with another scary IP. They could potentially use one of their recent movies such as Us, Happy Death Day, or The Purge. However, this is just speculation and like the other theories circulating the internet, there is no official statement from the park to confirm this.
