We finally have an update on what might just be the slowest-moving piece of construction in Walt Disney World history. We’re just kidding... kind of.

EPCOT’s CommuniCore Plaza and CommuniCore Hall were both slated to open at the end of 2023. This was pushed back by Disney to sometime in 2024 and, since then, construction has seemed incredibly slow.

However, over the last few weeks, we’ve spotted fresh tiles, sprinkler systems, and new lighting being fitted at both the plaza and the hall. And now we have an even more exciting update – light testing around the awning area of Communicore Plaza has been reported.

Could the opening of this long-awaited project finally be on the horizon?

A New EPCOT Mural

Eagle-eyed parkgoers have spotted that a mural has been installed over the last few days. The mural will tell the story of EPCOT and, so far, you can spot Mickey, Minnie, and Goofy peeking over the construction walls.

The mural will feature many iconic EPCOT attractions, including the Nova Corps Star Blaster from Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind and Figment leaping through the sky. The images in the below tweet were taken during a Cast Member event back in 2023.

There are far too many easter eggs to count – we love the addition of the Imagination! Pavilion’s pyramids in the background.

What is the CommuniCore Area?

The CommuniCore area will be a multi-use indoor and outdoor space located in World Celebration near Spaceship Earth. The entire area has been named after the CommuniCore pavilions that were part of EPCOT when it first opened.

The plaza and hall will be used as festival hubs and will contain a demonstration kitchen, mixology bar, and exhibition space (EPCOT’s food and wine festival is about to get WAY more fun, we think.) As well as this, the CommuniCore area will feature a Mickey & Friends meet and greet.
