Believe it or not, this year marks 50 years since the debut of Fantasy in the Sky, the very first fireworks performance at Disneyland in Anaheim, California! Ever since, Disney has become the staple for nighttime spectaculars. In celebration of those monumental landmarks, Shanghai Disney will present an all-new show, entitled ILLUMINATE! A Nighttime Celebration as a part of their “Year of Magical Surprises.”

“Year of Magical Surprises”

It’s hard to believe that Shanghai Disneyland Resort opened its gates almost five years ago, on June 16, 2016. Today, Shanghai Disney Resort kicked off its yearlong 5th-anniversary celebration, a “Year of Magical Surprises,” which will include a remarkable Disney “Surprise Cake Float” leading the Mickey’s Storybook Express Parade. Mickey and Friends will welcome Guests in their new birthday celebration outfits, as well as new entertainment offerings.

Disney “Surprise” Show

Up to four times per day, Mickey and Minnie will present a new Disney “Surprise!” Show on the Pepsi E-stage in Tomorrowland. In addition, select guests will have an opportunity to spin the Disney Surprise Wheel for a chance to win big!

ILLUMINATE! A Nighttime Celebration

Shanghai Disneyland will also be presenting a new fireworks spectacular, ILLUMINATE! A Nighttime Celebration will debut in Shanghai Disneyland Park and showcase never before seen cutting edge technology and lights featured upon the Enchanted Storybook Castle, as well as tons of Disney characters and scenes from classic Disney and Pixar films including Brave, Coco, The Lion King, Moana, Frozen, and more.

In addition, ILLUMINATE! A Nighttime Celebration will be the first to highlight Superheroes such as Iron Man and Captain America from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, just in time to build hype for the upcoming Avengers Campus coming to Disney California Adventure.

Last, but certainly not least – what Nighttime Celebration would be complete without an infectious score? Just think back to the likes of illumiNations: Reflections of Earth, Fantasmic!, or Happily Ever After. That is why we are pleased to announce that ILLUMINATE! A Nighttime Celebration will debut an all-new song, “Light Is In You”.
