Rise of the Resistance is tomorrow! Here is everything we know so far, and everything you need to know before your first ride on Rise of the Resistance.

When does it open?

This highly anticipated attraction will be debuting at Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World on December 5, 2019. Its counterpart will be opening in Disneyland on January 17, 2020.

What We Know So Far

  • Ride Duration: Rise of the Resistance is going to be the longest attraction in duration in Disney history. One ride will take around 20-30 minutes.
  • 4 Rides in 1: Disney has been relatively tight-lipped about the details of the attraction. However, the rumours are that Rise of the Resistance will be comprised of several (around 4) rides all rolled into one! We talk about these rides in further detail below.

Rumours & Predictions:

We have heard that guests first wait in an immersive queuing area, before entering a transport with Poe to help with a mission for the Resistance. We imagine this to be like Star Tours or even Smuggler’s Run. Guests are then captured by the First Order and interrogated by Kylo Ren. All we’ve heard about this is that guests “must figure out how to escape.” After escaping, guests embark on an interactive, trackless ride through the Star Destroyer. During this time, they are fighting to defeat the first order. We believe this might mean that guests are trying to shoot down the ‘bad guys’ like in Toy Story Mania. We don’t exactly know how the transition will occur, but the finale is supposed to play out like a traditional drop ride – Tower of Terror. However, we also heard recently that it is not supposed to be multiple drops, just one “swift drop.” Again, these are just predictions based on what Disney has said. So we cannot wait to see what this all really means.

What You Need To Know:

  • Height Requirement: Guests must be at least 40 inches tall to ride.
  • Others who should not ride: Disney advises that expectant mothers, those with back/neck/heart problems, and those with high blood pressure, or motion sickness should not ride. Children under 7 years old must be accompanied by somebody 14 years or older.
  • Wheelchairs: Guests in a wheelchair must be able to transfer into the ride vehicle safely.
  • Crowds: If you plan to attend the grand opening, or even shortly after, be prepared for crowds. We recommend prioritizing this attraction and trying to do it first thing upon arrival; preferably at rope drop.
  • Fastpass: Try to Fastpass other attractions in Hollywood Studios for later in the morning, since Rise of the Resistance likely won’t allow Fastpasses just yet.
