In honor of Space Mountain closing temporarily at Tokyo Disneyland in the summer of 2024, the resort has announced a special event titled Celebrating Space Mountain: The Final Ignition! The event will run between 9th April and 31st July, 2024, with the ride closing at the end of the final day.
During the event period, Tomorrowland will be filled with Space Mountain-themed decorations. And, as well as having the opportunity to ride Space Mountain in its original format for the final time, there will be a space-themed photo spot where you can snap a fun photograph.
Space-Themed Stickers, Snacks, and Merchandise
Throughout the event, cast members will be distributing special stickers in Tomorrowland for both riders and non-riders. Those who use the Disney Resort Line will also receive passes featuring a limited-edition design.
Special snacks come in the form of a sparkling jelly drink at Tomorrowland Terrace - there are Coca-Cola and Lemon-Vanilla variations and both drinks are said to be extremely sweet, infused with passion fruit jelly and lemon.
Select popcorn wagons around the park (not just in Tomorrowland) will also offer exclusive salted popcorn boxes with a special Mickey Mouse and Celebrating Space Mountain: The Final Ignition! design.
Over at the Disney Ambassador Hotel, the Hyperion Lounge will offer a premium sweets set in honor of Space Mountain. Guests will be able to enjoy a plate full of sweets themed to outer space, plus treats inspired by planets.
Tokyo Disneyland has also announced a special range of merchandise will be available to purchase from the 8th April. The merchandise will include stationery, cups, and bags, and will feature elements of the attraction old and new.
As part of the Circulating Smiles program, which features environmentally-friendly merch and upcycled pieces, Tokyo Disney will be selling a patch badge made from old cast member costumes. This patch can be attached to bags or pouches and is the perfect souvenir for any Space Mountain superfan.
About the Space Mountain Renovation
Space Mountain is set to undergo a huge transformation at the Tokyo park. Once closed in July, it’s not scheduled to reopen until 2027.
While Disney has kept the exact renovation details under wraps, they have shared that the attraction will “maintain its original concept as an indoor coaster but will have enhanced performance and immersive special effects that will provide guests with even more thrills.”
