Following an incredible opening day on Friday 24th May, Thorpe Park has announced that Hyperia will be closed until Wednesday 29th May. The news has shocked UK theme park fans, many of which made the journey to be there for its debut.

Hyperia is the UK’s tallest and fastest roller coaster and has already been dubbed by many as one of the best rides in the UK. The attraction experienced some downtime on opening day, though nothing out-of-the-ordinary was reported.

Hyperia is Closed Until Further Notice

Around 9:30 am on Saturday 25th May, Thorpe Park released a statement explaining that due to “unforeseen circumstances,” Hyperia would be unable to open. Many fans who could not make the opening day had arrived at the resort as early as 7 am and were understandably upset by this decision.

However, any hopes of a reopening were dashed when Thorpe Park uploaded the following post to X…

While no specific reason has been given for the closure, Thorpe Park shared that “The reason for any closure or restriction provided by this condition may include technical or operational reasons, capacity, inclement weather, special events or to ensure the safety and security of guests or if Merlin reasonably considers the circumstances so require.”

Over the weekend, guests have spotted the Mack Rides team on site attending to the track, so it’s likely to be a technical issue. Thorpe Park also added that those who would like to reschedule their date can do so via the official website.
