Well, COVID-19 has certainly changed things around the Disney parks! One word… masks! If you think they're awful to wear as a Guest in the Disney parks, just imagine being a Cast Member. But you know what they say, necessity is the mother of invention and so… today, we learned that Disneyland and Walt Disney World Cast Members have new ‘Pixie Dust’ face coverings, designed for cast, by cast!

A Team Effort

Developed remotely through efforts between cast members, these beautiful babies were designed in partnership with Disneyland and Walt Disney World resorts’ costuming teams, Disney Parks Live Entertainment, Worldwide Safety Services and Global Applied Technology.

Official Statement from Dr. Pamela Hymel, Chief Medical Officer

“Over the past several months, we’ve spent significant time and brainpower to provide our cast members with face coverings that are both functional and comfortable, and I’m proud of the incredible results,” said Dr. Pamela Hymel, chief medical officer for the Disney Parks. “They fit well, feel great and can last for more than 50 washes.”

In Search of A More Breathable Mask

With the support of their leaders at Disney, this team created a one-of-a-kind, reusable face covering specifically made for cast Members at the domestic Disney Parks.

Official Statement from Yonit Olshan, Costume Designer from Disneyland Resort Costuming:

“The unified design speaks to the fact that we are still one unified cast, one Disney ‘world.’ As a creative team, we gained so much from each other’s experience and exposure to different types of problems and projects.”

Two Masks, Both Different Yet The Same

The masks are offered in two styles, pleated, and contoured, and are available in several sizes. Both styles have adjustable spandex to go over the ears, an extended nose pinch to the face, a contoured shape under the eyes, and are made of lightweight, fast-drying material. The pattern highlights a fun take on pixie dust, peppered with Mickey-shaped constellations.
