A DinoLand U.S.A. revamp has been on the cards at Walt Disney World’s Animal Kingdom for a couple of years now – and it looks like it might finally have the green light to go ahead.
It has been widely reported that Disney World has filed a South Florida Water Management District permit for a 5-acre trailer compound near Kali River Rapids. What does this mean exactly? While the trailer doesn’t describe any of the DinoLand demolition, it does hint that this will be where Imagineers hold construction supplies.
The permit is for four Walt Disney Imagineering trailers, a large 12-wide contractor trailer, and 363 parking spaces in addition to a new sidewalk behind DinoLand.
What Might Replace DinoLand U.S.A.?
Whatever replaces DinoLand will likely have a tropical Americas theme. This project was first teased at the D23 Expo in September 2022. Josh D’Amaro, Disney Parks Chairman, shared early concept art that showed Zootopia and Moana as the replacement for DinoLand U.S.A. However, an updated concept art was shown in 2023 that featured Encanto and Indiana Jones instead.
This news has received mixed reviews from fans online. Plenty are excited for this run-down area to be rejuvenated, though many are expressing their frustration with Disney taking yet another cult classic ride (Dinosaur) and replacing it.
Rumours are circulating as to whether this could be a Hong Kong Mystic Manor-style ride where guests would travel around the magical Casa Madrigal or a retheme to the Indiana Jones Adventure ride in California.
So, what’s next? There are a couple of current blue sky projects over in Walt Disney World, but the one likely to come to fruition first is this DinoLand U.S.A. overhaul.
Disney has been sharing some major news lately – like the new cruise ship and Encanto show – ahead of D23 in August. Now this permit has been granted, we expect that Disney will want to share major park news before Epic Universe opens in 2025.
